In an attempt to increase pressure over Iran's disputed nuclear program, the IS recently increased sanctions against the company, imposing more restrictions on 21 Iranian government firms. This comes after accusations against Tehran of trying to get around previous sanctions by setting up additional, illegal trading companies.

Sanctions recently passed by the international community against Iran may be showing their first side effects in the educational sector. The Education Testing Service, which administers the popular Test of English as a Foreign Language (Toefl) is temporarily suspending the tests given in Iran, which will likely affect Iranian students who want to study abroad. In a speech that blamed Tehran for isolating itself, Obama recently pledged to ensure that Iranians could access the internet freely, without fear of censorship and now legislation and an initiative are underway to ensure success of his promise. During his speech (http://www.whitehouse.gov/the-press-office/remarks-president-obama-marking-nowruz) , Obama reached out more the the people of Iran at large rather than focusing his speech on the leadership in the country saying: "Even as we continue to have differences with the Iranian government, we will sustain our commitment to a more hopeful future for the Iranian people.”

As the BP oil spill drags on, there's ongoing talk about what types of drilling will be allowed and where. Iran has vast interest in oil, with it being the world's fifth-largest crude exporter, and most of its existing reserves are located in its southeast and offshore in the Gulf. The country also has the world's third-largest proven reserves of crude oil offshore in the Persian Gulf.
